Project Scare-A-Crow
Project Jericho, a nationally acclaimed outreach program based at Clark State Community College, has partnered with National Trail Parks and Recreation District to bring Project Scare-A-Crow to downtown Springfield. Twelve scarecrows resembling beloved Disney characters magically appeared on the City Plaza on October 17, 2014, and remained on display through October 24, 2014.
The community was encouraged to vote for their favorite scarecrow by dropping donations into the voting box located at the corner of Main and Fountain. The winners of the Project Scare-A-Crow contests were:
Popular Vote:
1. Captain Hook: The Latham Family
2. The Mad Hatter: The Kestner Family
3. Olaf: The Paul Family
Most Creative Use of Materials: The Evil Queen: The Nixon/Wiggins Family
Best Teamwork: Winnie the Pooh: The Boswell Family
Most Authentic Character: Goofy: The Sumpter Family
All proceeds were used to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank.
Project Scare-A-Crow ended with a finale event, “One Enchanted Evening,” on October 24, 2014, at the Veterans Park Amphitheater and featured Cinderella and Prince Charming with their horse and carriage, a children’s costume contest, free hot dogs and the animated movie, Cinderella.
